Cushman & Wakefield Atlantic Re-Organizes for the Future

Kicking off 2024 with a bang as we announce a trio of trailblazers embracing new roles at the firm.

HALIFAX, February 20, 2024 – Cushman & Wakefield Atlantic, one of the largest Commercial Real Estate firms in Atlantic Canada, is thrilled to announce the appointment of Melissa Gilbert as Chief Operating Officer and welcomes James Collins and Adam MaGee as owners in the business.

Managing Director Bill MacAvoy, who has led the firm for the past 15 years, will remain in his current role but will reduce his administrative leadership as part of a succession initiative, as Melissa Gilbert ascends into the larger role. By virtue of their investment, James Collins and Adam MaGee become advisors to management. With a shared vision for the future, Melissa, James, and Adam bring a fresh perspective that will set the stage for an electrifying future and strengthen the firm’s position in the market.

“These changes allow us to better react to local market dynamics, and incorporate new technologies to benefit our clients”, says MacAvoy. “These three individuals have been key contributors to recent firm successes and are best positioned to enable its evolution for the coming years”, he continues.

Gilbert has been with the firm since 2018 having previously been with a regional agency and a professional services firm. Collins is an 8-year veteran of the firm and MaGee 11 years. MacAvoy joined Cushman & Wakefield LePage in 2008 and acquired the business from the previous owners in 2011. MacAvoy is the grandson of the founder of James F MacAvoy Real Estate, a Halifax brokerage in the 1970’s and 80’s.

“I am honoured to become part owner and am excited about the opportunity to continue to work alongside Melissa, Adam and the rest of the team,” said James Collins. “Together, we are committed to driving innovation, fostering a culture of collaboration, and delivering exceptional service to our clients.” Adam MaGee added, “I am thrilled to embark on this new journey and am confident that, with our combined expertise and passion, we will achieve great success.”

2024 marks Cushman & Wakefield Atlantic’s 40th year of proudly serving the region. The firm operates from 7 offices across the 4 Atlantic provinces, with 25 professionals providing counsel to their clients on matters relating to Commercial Real Estate.  A member of the Cushman & Wakefield Alliance for 27 years, the local team passionately advocates for the advancement of the communities they serve.
